Abuja, August 22, 2025 —
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence industry through indigenous manufacturing of military hardware as a key measure for national security and development.

Speaking at the Graduation Ceremony of Course 33 of the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja earlier today, a representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conveyed the President’s message to the graduating officers and participants drawn from allied countries.

Delivering the message, the President’s representative stressed that local production of military hardware is no longer optional but essential, noting that a nation’s security cannot depend solely on external suppliers in a time of global uncertainty.

President Tinubu, through his message, also lauded the culture of research and innovation at the National Defence College, describing it as a strategic pillar in Nigeria’s security architecture. He cited the Presidential Treatise on “Harnessing Indigenous Manufacturing for Enhanced National Security and Development: Strategic Options for Nigeria by 2040” as a clear example of how research from NDC aligns with the nation’s long-term strategic vision.

“The graduates of today stand not only as defenders of Nigeria’s sovereignty but also as ambassadors of innovation, research, and indigenous capacity. Your work is the bridge between national security and national development,” the message read.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and distinguished alumni of the College, underscoring the institution’s central role in shaping Nigeria’s defence and security policies.

With the graduation of Course 33, the National Defence College continues its legacy as a premier centre of excellence — producing leaders who will chart the future of Nigeria’s security in line with the government’s vision of a secure, self-reliant, and globally respected nation by 2040.
