We Must Break the Walls of Exclusive Politics” — Senator Ned Nwoko Challenges Nigeria’s Power Elites

Abuja, Nigeria — Senator Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta) has called for a more inclusive political culture in Nigeria, stressing that governance must never be reduced to a “private gathering of a privileged few.”

Speaking in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, Nwoko said politics should remain an open table where every willing Nigerian can contribute ideas, energy, and vision toward building a greater nation.

According to the lawmaker, who chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, leadership must now be driven by innovation, empathy, and a collective sense of responsibility.

“No one else can make our country great except we, the political leaders who have been given the opportunity,” he said.
“That is why my political ideals and actions align with breaking the walls of exclusive politics and promoting governance that delivers justice, fairness, and true dividends of democracy.”

Reflecting on his two-year journey in the National Assembly, Senator Nwoko highlighted the impact of his legislative work, which includes the sponsorship of 34 transformative bills — many of which address key challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.

He said each bill was guided by a clear purpose: to strengthen institutions, empower youth, reform the economy, and ensure equitable development across regions, particularly in Delta North, which he represents.

Among the bills sponsored by the senator are:

  • Constitutional Alteration for the Creation of Anioma State

  • Nigerian Youth Entrepreneurship Grant Programme (Establishment) Bill

  • Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency (Establishment) Bill

  • One-Month Rent Limitation and Landlord Registry Act — aimed at reducing rent burden on tenants

  • Electoral Courts Establishment and Jurisdiction Act

  • Cashless Asset Acquisition Act, promoting transparency in property and high-value transactions

  • Diaspora Voting Bill

  • National Vigilante Group (Establishment) Bill

  • Nigeria Data Protection (Amendment) Bill, ensuring accountability for social media platforms

  • Institute for Leadership, Entrepreneurial and Corporate Governance (Establishment) Bill, designed to promote ethical and transparent leadership in both public and private sectors.

Senator Nwoko also cited bills focused on professional indemnity, youth service, mining reforms, and the establishment of federal institutions in Delta communities such as Ogwashi-UkuOnicha-Ugbo, and Akwukwu-Igbo.

He described the collective legislative agenda as his blueprint for “a reformed, equitable, and globally competitive Nigeria where institutions serve with integrity and every citizen feels the impact of representation.”

“These 34 bills are not just documents,” Nwoko said.
“They are my contribution to a Nigeria that must rise again — where politics is inclusive, leadership is transparent, and development is felt by every family.”
